My carpet fits the description stated as low pile, being less than 3/8" thick, but this mat is still too soft for it, so I am already getting wheel marks in it after only a couple days. Because of this, it also slides a little bit on my carpet, so I have to push it back into position occasionally. On cooler days it's less of a problem, but this is definitely not stiff enough for even low pile carpets. Other than that it seems to be a quality product, and any smell it had disappeared after a few hours out of the box.
